Make your dreams come true by setting up a plan to achieve them. Goal setting and vision boards are two things that I love to discuss. They are powerful tools when you have your thoughts aligned with your dreams. So, you want to create successful goals that will actually make a difference for you. Before starting, I want you to remember that your thoughts become your words and your words become actions. Be aware of what goes into your mind before setting your intentions.
Regardless of where you are now, any time is the perfect time to create successful goals!
Create Successful Goals with this Six-Step Process
1. DREAM BIG
Step out of your comfort zone and push yourself. Set high expectations, but at the same time, make sure that your goals aren't so far out of reach that you won't even be motivated to try. It's all about balance! If your goals scare you and you get butterflies thinking about them, that's a good thing. Strive for this feeling.
2. BE SPECIFIC
For a goal to be achievable, it must be as specific as possible. There is no point creating goals that are fluffy or ambiguous, so be super clear about what it is you that you want to achieve. Having the goal of launching your own business is great, but make it specific by saying what your business is going to be about, what kind of people you want in your team…write as many details down as possible.
TIP: Always write your goals as if they already happened. For example, "I have a successful business”. Present tense is key.
3. SET A DEADLINE.
Having a goal is awesome, but if you don’t give yourself a deadline, the chances of it becoming real are close to zero. Make it tangible and keep yourself accountable so that you reach your goal!TIP: If you want to start your own business, look at your calendar and choose the month and date that you want this to happen. Then, work towards that goal every single day until you achieve it. It helps to break down your goals into smaller steps so you don’t get overwhelmed.
4. WRITE IT DOWN AND LOOK AT IT EVERYDAY.
Writing down your goal makes it tangible and actionable. There is no point creating a goal only to have it forgotten the next week, which is why it is critical that you review your goal every single day. This will keep you motivated so that you know what action you need to take each day. Eventually, you'll be where you need to be in no time at all!
TIP: Visualisation is key. Find an image that reflects your goal. Then, write on this picture. Include what you actually want to accomplish (present tense + deadline). Visualize it multiple times a day. Choose a place where you will have no choice but to look at it daily. It is good to visualize your goals first thing in the morning before the world pulls you left and right and also before your go to bed at night.
5. EMBRACE YOUR OBSTACLES.
Nothing worth having was easy to come by – work hard, and take small steps everyday. I like to frame it this way: challenges are there to make you really question how badly you want it, because the reality is that anything worth having doesn’t come easily: it involves hard work, determination and persistence. Don’t give up + keep going no matter what!
6. START NOW
The truth is that there is no perfect time to start and each day you delay means you’re just putting off your dream. So start now. Don’t wait until tomorrow, next week or next month – now is the perfect time to say ‘yes’ to your dream.
