How Alan Found Motivation to Lose 30 kgs

In his younger years, Alan had a difficult time developing healthy habits. “I started gaining weight in elementary school, but I decided to lose weight when I turned 18,” he recalled. “I ate a lot of fast food, and I didn’t work out at all. I was sitting all day. I had enough. I had to change my lifestyle.” Alan’s self-esteem was negatively impacted in the process. “I was very insecure,” he confessed. “I didn’t go to the pool because I wasn’t happy with the way I looked." Shortly after Alan graduated from high school, he began to make small changes to his lifestyle. “I started out by incorporating healthier foods into my diet, and I went for short walks with my friend, which was a huge deal for me back then, since I wasn’t used to it at all,” he remembered. “I got into dentistry school, and to be honest, it’s a shame to be overweight when you’re working in a medical field. It wouldn’t set a good example for my patients in the future. I decided to take things seriously."

Alan joined the PumpUp community in 2014 to get a boost of motivation. “I fell in love with it immediately,” he gushed. “[People can] get bored of eating healthy and working out all the time, but thankfully, PumpUp members always motivate me to do my best. I have lost 30 kgs since July 2013, and I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of family members, friends, and PumpUp members.” What’s more, Alan is more positive about his body than ever before. “Losing weight helped me to be more confident, and comfortable in my own skin,” he revealed. “I have overcome the majority of my insecurities. I go to the gym at least 4 times a week and I eat healthy food most of the time - even though I do treat myself here and there."

Moving forward, Alan aspires to lose 15 more kilograms in order to reach his target weight. “If I had to give one [piece of advice], it would be to find a source of motivation,” he shared. “Whether it’s joining a health community, reading blogs, working out with a friend, or cooking healthy meals with a family member, every little step counts.”

Alan’s Biggest Source of Motivation
"Aside from fellow PumpUp members, I am my own motivation. It may seem to be self-centered to some people, but it’s not. Believing in yourself is the key to success, and the transformation photos that I share on my PumpUp page push me to do more and aim higher."

More about Alan
"I love reading books. It’s what I do when I have time to spare, and it’s exercise for the mind. You need an active thought process to be able to achieve your goals, and reading books has definitely helped. If you are somebody who is trying to be healthier, then don’t ever quit. It may seem difficult at first, but you’ll get used to and you will actually enjoy it. Once you see results, you aim for more."
