Faced with a full-time course load and two jobs, Katelyn had a difficult time prioritizing her health. "I ate out often, and it wasn't fast food necessarily, but I rarely ate home-cooked meals," she remembered. "I always said to myself, 'On Monday, I am going to start eating healthy and going to the gym." Much to Katelyn's chagrin, 'Monday' would turn into the next week, and then the next month. Excuses piled up and Katelyn always ended up back at square one. Right before Katelyn joined the PumpUp community in the summer of 2015, she hired a personal trainer to help her get on the right track. She began to exercise at least twice a day and she prepared all of her meals for the week in advance. Cumulatively, these changes led her to lose 40 lbs in the span of three short months. "Now that I use PumpUp and avidly go to the gym, my lifestyle has changed completely," she insisted. "I competed in my first NPC bikini competition in October 2015. I didn't place, but the fact that I got up on the stage in that tiny bikini was a win in my book."
The PumpUp community helped Katelyn get through her first-time experience as an NPC bikini competitor. "Using PumpUp, I was able to get a lot of motivation to not give up while prepping for my competition," she explained. "If I would post a picture, someone would always comment saying how great of a job I was doing, and it was always nice to hear that all my hard work in the gym [wasn't going] unnoticed. PumpUp helped me through my fitness journey, and I am grateful for that."
Though Katelyn transformed her body in a very short amount of time, she revealed that she had a hard time adjusting to what she saw in the mirror. "I kept thinking that I was 155 lbs when in reality, I was at a thin 120 lbs," she said. "To this day, I still look in the mirror and complain about the love handles that I think I see. When it comes down to it, I know that I'm not who I used to be. I'm now fit and fabulous!"
Moving forward, Katelyn plans to train for another competition in the Spring of 2016. Though she works 12 hour shifts at her local hospital and waitresses part-time at a supper club, Katelyn admitted that she spends most of her free time at the gym. "I live a very busy lifestyle, but I always make time for myself by going to the gym," she shared. "I spend one and a half to three hours a day at the gym, either weightlifting or on the dreaded Stairmaster. All of my food is weighed out, and put into containers accordingly. This makes things easier, since I have to eat 7 meals a day."
Katelyn's Best Advice
Stop waiting for 'Monday'! If the thought of healthy ever pops into your head, just dive in head first. Stop letting life get in your way. You owe it to yourself to feel good about how you look in the mirror. Furthermore, stop skipping meals and drink more water! Always find time to eat, or your metabolism will go down the drain and you won't lose the weight you want.
Katelyn's Biggest Source of Motivation
My biggest motivation is myself. Sure, there are a ton of ladies on Instagram that I would LOVE to look like some day, but seeing where I came from and how much I have accomplished, it motivates me to be better than I was yesterday.
Katelyn's Favorite Exercise Routine
I love love pull days! Working on my back muscles are my favorite. It's probably because I can lift the most weight using my back muscles and it makes me feel stronger than I probably am.
