A red smoothie with hidden greens! This raspberry remedy smoothie is perfect for fooling everybody into drinking healthy. This recipe includes my 3 favourite ingredients for smoothies: açai powder, wheatgrass powder and coconut water! Coconut water is amazing for people who exercise often, do a lot of cardio, or party hard. It is isotonic, so it has a similar composition to blood. This means that when you are dehydrated and you've lost a lot of minerals, you need to raise your blood volume to where it was before. The tricky part with drinking too much water after dehydration is that it lowers the concentration of sodium in your blood. This causes an imbalance, and fluid moves into your body's tissue to compensate. Drinking too much water dehydrates you even more.
Mind you, never stop drinking water. This phenomenon only happens in very extreme cases (water drinking competitions, drinking a lot of water after a marathon). It does not happen with coconut water because it does not dilute the blood. Drink up on this raspberry remedy smoothie and replenish your body with the nutrients that it needs!
Raspberry Remedy Smoothie
- 1 Grapefruit (squeeze it out and only use the juice)
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1 handful frozen strawberries
- 1 handful frozen raspberries
- 1 banana
- 1 tablespoon acai powder
- 2 teaspoons wheatgrass powder
- 1 teaspoon flaxseed oil
Blend all ingredients together and enjoy!
