Since my boyfriend Olli and I came back from Singapore (after visiting our friends), he really started getting into green smoothies! I have to make one every single morning. He came to me with a bag full of tangerines and told me, “Honey can you please make a smoothie with these?” So here it is, a minty and tangy tangerine smoothie. Because it is winter here in Shanghai, I love to put an extra amount of oil into this mixture. The avocado serves this purpose. I bet you already knew that avocado is one of the fattiest fruits, but did you know that it also has tons of Vitamin A, Alpha-Carotene, Beta-Carotene, Biotin and Vitamin E? Vitamin A and the Carotenes are essential for blood formation, and it also helps to keep our skin and eyes healthy. Avocado also contains a lot of unsaturated fats, which lower our blood cholesterol levels. When I made this tangy tangerine smoothie, I didn't extract the juice from the tangerines beforehand. I added whole tangerine slices into the mixture because I wanted to retain as much fiber and vitamins as possible.

Tangy Tangerine Smoothie

Serves 2

  • 1 handful Spinach
  • 1 handful Mint Leaves
  • 2 Tangerines
  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1-2 cups of Coconut Water

Add the spinach and mint leaves first. Then add the avocado, banana, tangerines, and coconut water. Feel free to press the juice out of the tangerines, or add them in whole. Remove seeds as necessary.

To make this smoothie, I first put in the leaves then added the avocado, banana, the tangerines and lastly the coconut water. You can either press out the juice of the tangerines and add it. Or you peel them and remove the kernels (if necessary). This recipe is made for two people.
