Want to be let in on a little secret that just might change your whole outlook on working out? Well, here it is. It’s something that a lot of us forget from time to time, as we get too caught up in our body image and what others do to get that perfect body - Fitness should be fun. Simple as that! Working out and exercising should not feel like a burden or a chore, if should eventually become something you actually WANT to do. Not there yet? Well, we have a few tips to help you get to the stage of loving fitness!
First of all, let us be clear that when we talk about fitness being fun, we don’t want to suggest that it doesn’t challenge you. We want you to have a good time but also get you moving, sweating, and feeling the burn! Overall, you should be enjoying what you are doing to burn those calories, not dreading it!
Our #1 Golden Rule: Do not force yourself to do something you literally HATE with every fiber of your being!
Every time you lace up those sneakers do you get a churning feeling in your stomach, and detest the thought of running around the block? Then stop forcing yourself to run! Seriously, just stop. You are never going to stick with something you don’t enjoy doing.
It is such a simple concept yet so many of us continue to try and force ourselves to like a certain fitness activity or workout, when actually we dread doing it. Well I’ve got some CRAZY news for you… there is more than just running (or whatever activity it is that you are making yourself do over and over again)
So the first step is to take a gander out of your comfort zone and try out some awesome fitness activities that give you a great calorie burn and might be of more interest to you! We’ve prepared a list of some of our favourites :)
- Stand-Up Paddleboard
- Rock Climbing
- Yoga/Hot Yoga
- Kick Boxing
- Fitness Bootcamp
- Ultimate Frisbee
- Beach Volleyball
So basically what we are saying is, if you hate going to Zumba, then stop going and find a new interest! Your possibilities are endless. Doing the same thing you’ve hated for so long doesn’t give you the opportunity to experience everything else that is out there.
Another factor to consider here is how you are exercising. If you are working out in group classes or engaging in group activities but feel totally self-conscious when doing it, stop putting yourself through that. Try working out alone for a bit and see if you like that better. If you are super bored working out alone, then take the alternative route – try working out with a few friends or sign up for group classes. Your boredom may be coming from not pushing yourself hard enough, and working out with others will def do the trick!
The most important thing to stress here is you still need to TRY. Don’t go into these fitness exercises or workouts with a closed-mind, already made up that you are going to hate what you are about to do. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Give the activity a few tries (of your best effort) and then decide, “hey, this is for me, I love it!” or “Meh, not my favourite thing in the world, I think I am going to try Tennis instead.” We want you to be honest with yourself, and stop doing a certain exercise just because that is what Kim Kardashian does. Explore your options and find out what you love and do it. Because, at the end of the day, as with so many other things in life, you should love what you do!
And hey, if you’re just not motivated, take a quick look on PumpUp, and all the inspiring pics, will have you ready to kill that next workout.
