For years, Sarah struggled with her weight and her body image. She had a difficult time finding the motivation to exercise on a regular basis. "I was overweight and fed up," she insisted. "I was always grabbing food on the go and snacking in between." Six months ago, Sarah joined the PumpUp community after hearing about it on Instagram and at her local gym. "Somebody [I know] said that they found it was motivating to see other people's progress, while getting complimented on their own progress," she recalled. "I decided that I had enough of being overweight and I decided to do something about it. I joined my local gym and used PumpUp to gain motivation from other members' progress." Sarah's goal was to eventually share an inspiring transformation of her own, and she's done just that. "With the help of PumpUp, I have lost 52 lbs, 4 dress sizes, 10 inches off my stomach, 9 inches off my waist, and 6 inches off my thighs," she shared. "I am healthier and happier. I want to continue my journey by getting leaner."
Now, Sarah works out at the gym 6 days a week, combining running, cycling, and rowing with weight training for various muscle groups. "I work out in the morning, as it energizes me for the rest of the day," she mentioned. "I eat as clean as I possibly can, and I stick to an intake of 1300-1400 calories a day. I also follow a gluten-free diet, as I'm a coeliac."
Sarah is particularly motivated by her father, and by other PumpUp members. "My dad also lost a lot of weight throughout the past couple of years, and he has done an amazing job," she said. "I also take inspiration from other PumpUp members who post their transformation pictures and share their workouts and meal ideas. It's always good to try something new."
Sarah's Best Advice
The one thing I always remember when trying to stay motivated is to 'Remember why you started'. For me, that was to be more comfortable and confident about myself, to be healthy and happier, and to be in a bikini for Summer 2016. It's something I haven't been able to do for a long time! Remember to do things you enjoy, find workouts you like doing and it'll become so much easier.
I usually do 1 hour of cardio, I mix it up between cross training, running, cycling and indoor rowing. My favourite cardio exercise is cross training. I also do 30-40 mins of weight training, I alternate working different muscle groups each day, whether it be legs one day, arms the next, and abdominals the next day. My favourite form of strength training involves working my legs. Though they're always very sore the next day, it's worth it!
