Recently, we spoke with Warren C. from Calgary, Alberta about his experience working out with PumpUp. Here’s what he had to say:

I have been using the PumpUp app for about 4 months now. I find it’s an excellent way to keep me motivated, structure my workouts, and it’s allowed me to become a more healthy individual.

I’ve been going to the gym regularly for a number of years. However, as I got older and moved on to the “real world,” my daily routine changed considerably due to my career. As an accountant, sitting at a desk for over 8 hours a day became the norm, and I was getting very little exercise in my job life. Towards my later 20’s and early 30’s I had put on over 35 lbs due to a more sedentary lifestyle. 

In December of 2012 I received a wake-up call. I had lost 25 lbs without really changing my lifestyle, all in only 3 months. I asked myself the question “how can I being losing so much weight without eating differently or exercising more than usual?” I went to the doctor and sure enough there was something wrong with me… diabetes. The first thing the doctor recommended was a strict exercise routine, and wholesale change in my diet. I first thought of getting a personal trainer, but they can be very expensive, so I thought perhaps there was an app for my phone that I could use.  That was when I came across the PumpUp app. I loaded it onto my phone, and have been using it ever since.

I love this app because it almost forces you to complete an entire workout.  My biggest problem in the past was that I would have “that’s good enough” syndrome.  I would do 2 sets of an exercise, and then skip the others because “that was good enough”. The workouts created by PumpUp establishes a structure that allows you to hit all your goals for that workout and keeps you motivated to finish. There are tons of different exercises available that are totally interchangeable, that will keep your workouts fresh and engaging… avoiding the dreaded “plateau”.

Another feature I love is that it also has workouts designed for those days where you can’t make it to the gym and you can only work out using your own body weight. Like most of us, I don’t have 2 hours to work out per day, so it’s important to maximize the workout in the time you have available, and this program allows you to do that.

Today I am focused on maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to keep my diabetes in check. Since using PumpUp, my cardio endurance has increased, I have gained about 10 lbs back in muscle, have kept my blood sugar under control and ironically enough, am feeling better than I have in years.
