Nathan traded weekly partying for healthier habits and here's what happened

It wasn't easy for Nathan to ease into a routine filled with regular exercise and healthy eating habits. "I wasn't in the greatest shape, but I had good people around me at home," he explained. "[They] encouraged me. Of course, when I joined PumpUp, I quickly got a lot of support, [even though I was only] on there for a short period of time. My confidence has also grown, which is something that I lacked while I was growing up. I owe a lot of people for their support during my fitness journey. I wouldn't be where I am without them and PumpUp."

Why Kellie finally felt accepted after she joined a fitness community

Though Kellie's fitness journey began prior to joining PumpUp, she didn't have anybody to share her triumphs and challenges with. "I was at that point where I kind of felt lonely," lamented Kellie. "No one in my circle of family and friends understood why I was doing what I was doing. At times, they were negative." Though Kellie did receive motivation from Instagram, she was dismayed that it wasn't a platform that was specifically tailored to fitness. "I really wanted an app that I could join for fitness," she shared.

Gone are the days when Bárbara would turn to cookies as a source of comfort. "PumpUp really helped me to achieve my goals. I turned my wishes into habits," she said proudly. "I am a fitness and health food 'freak'! I accomplished everything I wanted to [achieve] on PumpUp: having a healthy lifestyle."

Do you want to learn how to do a handstand? You don't have to be a trained gymnast, a circus professional or a yogi to do it. Follow these easy steps demonstrated by PumpUp member @randy_dizon  and you will be on your way to accomplishing a handstand in your very own home! All you need is a chair or stool, a wall and a lot of floor space.

Step 1: Warm up your wrists

Make sure to take your time and really stretch out your wrists in all directions. Not only will this help to prevent any injuries, but you will also be strengthening your wrists at the same time.

Step 2: Push-ups

Strong pushups will help you gain the upper body strength to hold yourself upside down. Pike push-ups are a more advanced variation that will help you to gain much more upper body strength.

Step 3: Chair-supported handstands

Using the chair try to stack your hips on top of your shoulders, once you feel comfortable with that slowly lift one leg up to the sky straight up and then once your comfortable slowing bring the other leg up.

Step 4:Wall-supported handstands

Go back and forth between this step and Step 3. Using the wall, face the wall in a handstand. Make sure to keep your body completely straight, staying just an inch away from the wall. The only part of your body that should be touching the wall is your toes to maintain balance. It's scary, so you need to trust in yourself and use your fingers to stay balanced.

Step 5: Unassisted Handstands

Master each step before moving on to this last stage. The most important aspect of your training is repetition! The more you practice, the better your handstands will get. Learning how to do a handstand takes time. By following these steps, you'll be well on your way to perfecting your handstand.

How I lost my baby weight for good - Vanessa's PumpUp Success Story

How I lost my baby weight for good - Vanessa's PumpUp Success Story

Baby weight isn't impossible to lose. When Vanessa joined the PumpUp community in June 2014, she was fiercely determined to shed the 50 lbs that she gained while she was pregnant with her son. "As soon as I got clearance from my doctor, I dived right into PumpUp," she recounted. "I shared photos every day and my PumpUp family would motivate me by commenting and pushing me daily, especially @randiashley and @tweetii. PumpUp workouts and a program called T25 got me started, because I didn't know too many exercises when I first started out." Backed by motivation from the PumpUp community, Vanessa lost over 30 lbs of her baby weight. Prior to PumpUp, Vanessa's eating habits went astray. It was common for her to eat several hot dogs and a large-sized pizza in one sitting. "I didn't know anything about planning my meals, or what eating healthy really meant," she professed. "On an average day, I would look at fit people and wish I was them. While I was pregnant, I knew that I would bounce back as soon as I had my baby."

Vanessa Mejia : Her PumpUp post-pregnancy story

Since Vanessa joined the PumpUp community, she exercises on a daily basis and shares about each of her workouts on PumpUp to keep herself accountable. "I became a wellness coach too," she added. "I know there are people who look up to me now. Using PumpUp daily and putting my life out there actually keeps me motivated to work out, especially when I don't want to." Vanessa likes check up on members who motivate her the most on PumpUp. She's also inspired by those who are just beginning their fitness journeys. "Looking at progress pictures really motivates me to work out," she insisted.

Making time to exercise isn't always easy when you have a baby, but Vanessa worked hard to create a schedule that accommodates her lifestyle. She stays positive by maintaining a firm resolve to never compare her progress with that of anybody else's. "Be patient, be persistent, and don't compare yourself with others," she advised. "Use PumpUp to track your journey and don't be afraid to share about your concerns. PumpUp has amazing motivators who are always positive."

Vanessa Mejia : Her PumpUp post-pregnancy story

As Vanessa continues her journey on PumpUp, she strives to make as many fit friends as she can from around the world. "I love how this app allows us to connect with people from other countries in a close setting," she shared. Vanessa ultimately hopes to gain 10 more pounds of muscle and might even consider training for a fitness competition in the future. Finally, she's trying to help her father, mother, and sister overcome their less healthy habits. "My dad had a dialysis a few weeks ago due to his diabetes and bad eating habits," she said solemnly. "Trying to stay consistent with my workouts has been hard, but I make time for it when I can."

Vanessa's Biggest Source of Motivation

My biggest source of motivation is my son and family. I want to set a healthy example to the people around me, I want to be here for a long time. Thus, I need to eat healthy and active. The people who have always kept me motivated have been @Randiashley and @Tweetii on PumpUp. Since day one, they kept pushing me to lose my baby weight and they made it happen!

Favourite Workout Routines

I love the ab and lower body workouts that I can put together on PumpUp, I love how I can decide which body groups I need to target with the equipment I have on hand. It helps me because I work out at home. When I go to the gym or want to try something different than a Beachbody Workout, it is easy to put together. I usually do Beachbody programs because I am a coach, and I also love weightlifting.

Vanessa's Meals

I love everything organic. 85% of my food is organic. It does cost more, but I'm passionate about investing in my health. Recently, I had stomach problems when I attempted to eat processed food. My body has completely changed and I won't go back to the way that I was eating before.

More about Vanessa

I am a stay at home mom. Over the course of my year-long fitness journey, I lost over 30 pounds by eating healthy, doing Beachbody programs like 725 and the 21 day fix, and using PumpUp. I became a wellness coach through Beachbody to help others lose weight and become healthy. I also became P90X certified and will become a group exercise instructor and personal trainer soon. I recently told my husband (2 weeks ago) that I was going to quit nursing school to pursue my business with Beachbody and to become a fitness instructor. I LOVE the fitness lifestyle and everything about it. I want everyone to have the chance to build a business from home if they need to, so that they too can stay home with their children without missing out on opportunities.

Non-scale victories: clothes never fit better for this PumpUp member

"I can't wait to see how my clothes fit after they're all taken in," said PumpUp member @2choosehealth, a Brooklyn resident who lost over 80 lbs over the course of her health and fitness journey. She has been experiencing all kinds of non-scale victories as far as clothes are concerned. "I went from having no waist to having a waist like this," she gushed. "Most days I can't believe how far I've come. One of the perks of losing weight is being able to shop wherever I want. I could never shop at American Apparel at 280+ lbs." A primary goal for this PumpUp member was to fit into an American Apparel dress. "I now fit into two [dresses]," she said gleefully. "It's the little things that make this journey worth it." Non-scale victories : fitting into clothes has never felt better for this PumpUp member

Hard work, meal preparation, and smart cheat meals became the keys to her success. She eats protein-rich food: a total of 4 small meals a day with 2 snacks in between. "I'm eating all day so that I can feel comfortable enough to know that I'm not being deprived of anything!" she insisted. "I also love to eat beautiful food. Put effort into your meals and make them look appetizing!"  @2choosehealth stayed on track with lots of mental preparation. "I'd remember what my body looked like every time I wanted something that was bad for me," she explained. "It's mostly a mental [process]."

Transformation Tuesday: If Joy can do it, so can you

Screen-Shot-2015-04-14-at-10.10.58-AM.png

At the young age of 25, Joy has already been through a fitness journey that most people would never experience in a lifetime. This mother has already lost an admirable 40+ lbs since college, and it's all thanks to hard work and dedication. "I was 145 lbs and in high school in 2007, then 189 lbs in 2009 when I was in college," said Joy. "It's 2015, and the fit and new me is 140 lbs. I'll never give up."  Transformation Tuesday: Joy

Joy exudes confidence: it's palpable in her smile. As a member of PumpUp since January 2014, Joy constantly turns to the community for support as she tracks her progress. "I'm not fully there yet, but I'm slowly getting there," she admitted. "I love my PumpUp family, the support is AWESOME!"

There is no one secret to Joy's success. Much of her progress is attributable to a consistent workout schedule. "I started off with cardio then moved on to weightlifting," she elaborated. "Best decision ever. I feel stronger as the days go by." You'll hardly find a moment without Joy's signature smile. She demonstrates that anything can fall into place as long as you have a positive attitude.

Transformation Tuesday : Joy

As Joy continues along her fitness journey with the PumpUp community, she hopes to gain more strength and learn to be at peace with her body. "I hope to be able to meet my PumpUp family and be able to train together with them," responded Joy, when asked about what items were on her fitness "bucket list". We hope that we can make her dream happen too!

Why drastic weight gain didn't stop Tian from making a change

Why drastic weight gain didn't stop Tian from making a change

If you once had speedy metabolism that suddenly slowed to a halt, Tian can sympathize with you.  Despite having been skinny for most of her life, Tian took this genetic pre-disposition for granted. This led to drastic weight gain that weighed on her until June 2014, when she decided to take action against it. "It's never too late to make a change," she insisted. "I'm not the strongest or most athletic, but I have a lot of heart. I keep pushing forward." Not long after, Tian joined PumpUp in search of support and she hasn't looked back. When Tian shared about her transformation on PumpUp, the community was stunned by her truly admirable transformation. "[The] supportive comments really made my day," she said warmly. "I greatly appreciate [each person] taking the time to comment. [They] are all a constant source of great support. Much love and appreciation!"

How Tian overcame drastic weight gain

Exercise is the best stress reliever for Tian, who regularly wakes up at 5am to perform gruelling Insanity workouts. Though cardio is a challenge for her, she makes an effort to push through every workout. "At the time I began my fitness journey, I couldn't do 1 pushup or last more than 3 minutes on the treadmill," she professed.

The PumpUp community is inspired by everything that Tian has achieved after having overcome the drastic weight gain from her past. Keep her pumped on the app @tianloves!

Transformation Tuesday: Troy gained 20 lbs of muscle mass because of PumpUp

Transformation Tuesday: Troy gained 20 lbs of muscle mass because of PumpUp

I-AM-WORTH-2.png

The wise C.S. Lewis was quoted saying that hardship prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny. PumpUp member @twoolf29 is certainly one of these people. After a devastating career ending injury that forced him to leave professional football, he lost a lot of mass without a personal trainer there to guide him. Now, he relies on PumpUp for support and workouts to help him recuperate that lost muscle mass and to get in better shape than ever before. With the help of the PumpUp community, Troy was inspired to adopt healthier eating habits as he gradually gained more muscle mass. He went from 182 lbs in September 2014 to around 200 lbs 4 months later. Keep him pumped! Have you ever had trouble gaining muscle mass? Experienced a hardship that you couldn't have ever foreseen? Comment below! We'd love to hear your thoughts!
