Healthy eating and regular exercise were hardly priorities for Makayla.  "I ate what I wanted and when I wanted it," she remembered. "Fast food, chips, pizza, candy, etc. I would nap or watch TV on the couch all day." Makayla barely drank water and munched on processed snacks all day, rather than eating real meals. "I was never actually full," she admitted. Seven months ago, Makayla joined the PumpUp community because she wanted to start living a healthier lifestyle. "I was at the highest weight I've ever been: 209 lbs," she recalled. "I wasn't happy with that number and I definitely wanted to make a change. I found PumpUp through Instagram. I was looking for more ways to get motivated and it has changed my life since!"

Soda might be tasty, but it can destroy your eating habits. Before Adriana joined PumpUp, she used to drink three cans of sodas a day. "Soda was my thing," she recalled. "It was really bad. Though Kellie's fitness journey began prior to joining PumpUp, she didn't have anybody to share her triumphs and challenges with. "I was at that point where I kind of felt lonely," lamented Kellie. "No one in my circle of family and friends understood why I was doing what I was doing. At times, they were negative." Though Kellie did receive motivation from Instagram, she was dismayed that it wasn't a platform that was specifically tailored to fitness. This happened to Monica, a PumpUp member who hit a plateau after losing 15 lbs. "I began my journey [back] in 2012, but it was a slow process," she said. "The only problem was that I didn't know anything about nutrition. I ate what I thought was healthy, and of course I was wrong sometimes."

Tiffany believes that nothing is impossible if she works hard enough for it. Once she applied that logic to her health, everything fell into place. "I really didn't want it," she remarked about her initial attitude towards weight loss. "But why didn't I want it? That was the question that I began to ask myself. Then I discovered the answer...who would I be if I wasn't overweight?  I didn't know a life where I didn't stuff my face with sweets and exercised regularly and willingly. Those facts left me afraid. Afraid of the unknown, afraid to find out who I really was."

Donna has been tirelessly dedicated to a lifestyle of regular exercise and healthy eating for many years. "I wanted to look better before I turned 40, and to be healthy and happy on the inside as well," she confirmed. "Once I started to notice positive changes, that just fuelled me keep working even harder."  When she first joined the PumpUp community, she was looking for a group of like-minded individuals who shared in her passion for health and fitness. "The app seemed to be the perfect fit for me because I love sharing what I've learned over the years and inspiring others to do the same," she insisted. "Since being involved on PumpUp, my eyes have been opened and my perspective broadened to people’s needs and interests.  I have a wonderful camaraderie with likeminded individuals and I have seen a level of respect, love & support like no other."  One photo of Donna's lunch changed the landscape of her future in ways that she could never have imagined. "My daughter suggested that I post it, before I had any idea about what PumpUp even was," she admitted. "I thought PumpUp was a more suitable platform to share my workouts and meals than other apps— as well as a potential opportunity to share some of my learning experiences & to help inspire others in their health & fitness journey."  Little did she know that she'd become a role model to thousands of others.

Though Donna suffered from three devastating athletic injuries over the past year, these setbacks gave her the strength and experience to meaningfully help other PumpUp members who are struggling. "I'm learning to listen to my body and to know the difference in being persistent and being stubborn," she confided. "Last year, I pulled a back muscle due to improper form while deadlifting, and then I had two separate toe injuries while training for a Savage Race.  Each time, I rested when necessary, adjusted, adapted, learned & persevered." As Donna recovered from her injuries, she professed that her biggest obstacle was more mental than physical. "I had completely changed my training routines for months in preparation for the race," she recounted. "Getting injured the night before was a crushing blow." Despite having to deal with the disappointment of dropping out of her race on the morning of her event, Donna moved forward. "I had to get in my mind that this was just not meant to be at this time and move on," she offered. "I have learned that setbacks are a part of this journey.  They need not get you down or hold you back.  They are opportunities to learn about yourself, and result in chances to grow stronger."

It's safe to say that Donna found her true calling as a PumpUp motivator and role model. You'd be hard-pressed to find a day when she isn't sharing a healthy recipe or giving encouragement to other PumpUp members. "Through this journey, I hope to help people find their inner strength to love themselves unconditionally," she insisted. "I love being supportive of others' goals and accomplishments, as well as helping them through setbacks. By using PumpUp, I have been given a glimpse of what people are searching for.  This has definitely helped me realize that my purpose is to encourage, inspire and inform these individuals how to reach their goals." The PumpUp community wouldn't have it any other way.

Donna's Best Advice

Several things come to mind. My first advice would be to always set goals for yourself (however small they may be), as they help you and your confidence grow. Also, never stop learning - whether it be about foods or exercises. There’s an endless array of healthy food combinations and exercises so it should be next to impossible to get bored. Find people you respect as role models (and learn from them) but always be yourself.  Next, don’t be afraid to try new things. Learn to stay positive and adapt while in a setback. Last and most importantly - never, ever quit!

Donna's biggest source of motivation

I started this journey for myself and that has always been enough motivation for me.   Also, my workouts are therapy for me. When I am stressed a good workout helps balance me back out.  My children are also motivation for me.  I want to be the best example I can for them.  I want to stay fit and healthy so I am able to continue to have the strength & energy to be active with them.  I also want them to learn about good, wholesome, clean foods and how they make a major difference in their overall health and well being.

I truly am passionate about my lifestyle of clean/ healthy eating, fitness and encouraging & uplifting others to recognize their personal potential.  It brings me great joy to see others succeed and overcome obstacles.  I want to set a good example and be a role model especially for young girls so they can grow up learning to love & take care of themselves in a healthy manner and respect their bodies accordingly.   I am currently in the process of making a long-time dream of mine a reality - launching my health & fitness blog. How PumpUp helped Jessica beat anxiety

If anxiety and tide pools of profound unhappiness have ever burdened you, Jessica knows exactly how you feel. Freshly out of university in July 2014, Jessica decided to do something about it by joining the PumpUp community. “I turned to fitness and a healthy lifestyle in an effort to lose weight, boost my mood, and combat my anxiety,” she explained. “My lifestyle has completely changed since I’ve been using PumpUp. I can’t even express how much healthier I feel!”

Prior to PumpUp, university-induced stress got the best of Jessica’s eating habits. “I would constantly snack when writing essays, a form of comfort eating I suppose,” shrugged Jessica. “There was quite a lot of partying and drinking so I put on quite a bit of weight while at university.” Frequent fast-food trips didn’t help her case either, as much as she tried to stick to lean meat and fish at dinnertime. Her snacking habit and lack of exercise became two of her biggest obstacles next to her 3-year battle with anxiety. “I would suffer from frequent panic attacks and avoided many situations because of it,” she recounted. “PumpUp was the beginning of my fitness and health journey. The community was so positive, uplifting and encouraging. I began to appreciate what I had and learned that positivity is key. I started to say yes: I will live my life to the fullest, believe in myself, and face my fears.”

Life with PumpUp: less anxiety, more positivity

Suffice it to say, Jessica has be true to the promises she made since she began to share her story with the PumpUp community. She eased into the groove of a different routine and was stunned by the palpable impact it made upon her physical and mental health. “What’s so great about PumpUp is that I can track my progress since I first started my journey,” she insisted. “It really helps me to see how far I’ve come with the added bonus of such a motivational community.” Not only are Jessica’s eating habits much more balanced, they are less so dictated by her stress level. “I started my job as a teaching assistant in September—this keeps me busy because I don’t get many breaks,” she elaborated. “There is less time and no temptation to snack.”

Once work finishes, you’ll be able to find Jess at the gym 4 times a week, tracking her progress on PumpUp as she goes. “When I especially don’t feel like working out, I’ll go onto PumpUp and it’ll instantly motivate me to get back in the gym,” Jessica enthused. “I’ve never regretted a workout and really do feel so much better after. Not only is she motivated it exercise more consistently, Jess’s mood is discernibly more positive. You’ll be hard-pressed to find an ounce of negativity when you’re around her. “I used to be extremely pessimistic, always worrying about what I looked like,” she recalled. “I’m happier and healthier than ever before since I joined PumpUp. I’m an optimist for the first time in my life and I’ve been able to help encourage others with their own journey.”

If there’s one thing that Jessica recommends to others looking to lead a healthier lifestyle, it’s perseverance. “Believe in yourself,” she affirmed. “If you’re struggling to maintain an active lifestyle, set goals and believe that you can achieve them. Change doesn’t happen right away. It takes time. Often I feel like when you're close to giving up, you begin to see change!" 

Jessica’s biggest motivation

Initially my biggest motivation was wanting to love my body. PumpUp helped me to achieve that. Now I'm constantly motivated by the wonderful and supportive PumpUp community but in particular, Lorrin (@lorrin) and Dan (dmccarthy). I've been following their journeys since I downloaded PumpUp and they have always been so encouraging and supportive, not just to me but to so many other users too. Both have come so far and I'm so grateful to be surrounded by such inspirational and supportive people like them!

Jessica’s meals

I usually eat porridge with chia and flaxseed for breakfast, a banana as my morning snack and I make a salad every night for lunch, which consists of spinach, chicken or salmon, olives, tomatoes, humus, falafel, avocado and a grain such as quinoa or bulgur wheat. Sometimes I'll have a protein bar an hour before I go to the gym or oatcakes with almond butter (my favourite snack!) A typical dinner for me now would be salmon and sweet potato or a chicken casserole.

Motivational Mantra

My biggest struggle was learning how to be happy and not to worry so much, so Helen Keller's quote "Be happy with what you have while working for what you want" is a fantastic reminder to enjoy life. 

Favourite Exercise

To stay active I mostly go to the gym and do running here and there. I like to start off my gym session with 15 minutes on a bike followed by 5 minutes on the rowing machine. I then use various different weight machines but I particularly like the roman chair (even if it looks scary!) to work my abs and I enjoy doing lunges with 8kg dumbbells.

I'm British but I'm also bilingual, I speak English and French and lived in Paris for a year in 2012! As well as fitness, I have a huge passion for makeup and beauty and I have my own beauty blog.

A real-life Wonder Woman soars among the PumpUp community and she’s absolutely one of PumpUp’s success stories of 2014. Not only did support from the pumpupapp motivate @latinwonderwoman to become a personal trainer, Jiselly shared that she just got accepted into medical school and will continue to provide guidance with the added knowledge that she’ll gain. Learn how Jiselly transformed her body and achieved all of her goals in 2014 with support from PumpUp, hard work, and determination. 

Jiselly began to lead an active lifestyle in order to relieve the stress brought on by the pressure of her MCAT exams and medical school applications. In October 2013, at this early stage of her health and wellness journey, she decided to become a member of the PumpUp community. “After I downloaded the PumpUp app, I realized that I was not alone,” she confirmed. “I received the support of so many people. We encourage each other to become better and I now embrace fitness as a lifestyle.”


The PumpUp community is extremely proud of Jiselly for accomplishing so much since she became a member. Constant motivation and support from Jiselly’s PumpUp followers pushed her to complete her personal trainer certification. “Being a personal trainer is awesome because I’m able to help others lead a healthier lifestyle before I ultimately become a physician,” she said. “Before PumpUp, I was a simple pre-med student and a cardio bunny. Now my exercises are more fun and I am able to put routines together in 2 seconds just by using the application.” She explained that her body transformed completely within the span of a year and a half of using PumpUp. “I am stronger with more muscle definition, and became a personal fitness trainer thanks to the support of members who have been following me from the beginning,” she affirmed.

As a teenager, Jiselly struggled with weight gain. “I never felt capable of reaching my fitness goals because I lacked guidance,” she admitted. “I ate a lot of sweets and unhealthy food and I did not drink much water because I never did so as a child.” She was bullied at school for being overweight, but strong enough to ignore the negativity that permeated her younger years. “I loved myself then and I love myself today even more,” she asserted. “Being fit is just a plus!”


She urges other PumpUp members and those looking to lead a more active lifestyle in 2015 to redefine their conceptions of health and fitness. “Think about this as a lifetime journey,” Jiselly counseled. “Do not put a time frame to your fitness goals. Exercise as much as you can, learn to love it, and learn how to enjoy it.” She encourages other PumpUp members to view all aspects of health and fitness out of love, rather than out of pure necessity. “Loving what you do is going to help you be consistent,” she insisted. “One day, you will compare the person you became with the person that you were and you’ll notice how much you accomplished. Trust me, this is how I do it.”

Jiselly’s greatest source of motivation is from her PumpUp followers and her clients. “I will never let them down,” she promised. “They know me as a strong person who has accomplished a lot and I will continue to inspire them through my posts, even after I begin medical school. I’ll have more knowledge and I will be able to provide them with more guidance.”

“I work long hours, sometimes 11 hours at a doctor’s office. My gym closes around 12am. When I get home around 10pm, I change really quickly and head out to get my workout done. When I cannot make it to the gym, I use PumpUp to get my workout done at home.”

Learn how Erin got visible abs and has been overcoming PTSD with PumpUp's help - PumpUp Success Stories


Erin (@3rin) joined PumpUp with one simple goal: to have visible ab definition. “My fitness goals were reached because of my determination and because of members of the PumpUp community who have either become good friends or family to me,” she insisted. Erin is in the spotlight to bravely share her turbulent and inspiring story coping with PTSD, anxiety, and depression as a single parent, while still achieving her health and fitness objectives. “I’ve come to realize that being healthy isn’t about losing weight or getting abs,” she revealed. “It’s about having a positive attitude, eating right, and being with people who you love and love you. 

One simple bike ride in 2012 became Erin’s catalyst to truly strive for a healthy and active lifestyle. “I went for a bike ride with a friend and we raced, but he beat me by 7km,” she said. Fuelled with determination, Erin built up her cycling skills over the next couple of months, improved her confidence, and lost weight. “After the 2 ½ month mark, I finally beat him. I was so excited that I entered a race for breast cancer. There were 500 other women and I would have placed 3rd if my scoliosis hadn’t affected the outcome of my race.” 

However, Erin’s scoliosis took a toll on fitness journey other ways. “After recuperating in physio after the race for breast cancer, I was determined to get back into biking,” she elaborated. “At that point, my schedule had changed—I became a single parent because I left my abusive ex-husband, and with no visitation or child support.”  Erin managed to get back on track despite of these obstacles, and in a major way. “My daughter was 2 ½ years old at the time, so I asked my friend to watch her in the mornings so that I could go running and clear my mind,” Erin added. From that point onwards, her healthy lifestyle has been something that she is proud of herself for maintaining.


Intrigued by the prospect of a mobile app that could customize workouts for her, Erin joined PumpUp in July 2013 in order to augment her existing workout routine and to track her progress.  “I was determined to get visible abs,” she insisted. With hard work, determination, and encouragement from the PumpUp community, Erin managed to achieve her goal and more. “About a month ago in November 2014, I took a random picture of myself lying on the ground… and I saw abs,” she explained breathlessly. “My daughter is in school, telling everybody about them. It’s embarrassing, yet exhilarating.”  

PumpUp is honoured to have helped Erin to achieve one of her ultimate objectives for 2014. “I accomplished all I wanted to accomplish with the help of PumpUp. I have abs,” she gushed. “Now I just need the confidence to show off my hard work. I can confidently run in just a sports bra, and in every type of weather. However, I still lack the courage to wear a halter top or a bathing suit in public.”

The PumpUp community admires Erin’s strength in combatting her PTSD. “I have recurring flashbacks, anxiety issues, and severe scoliosis,” she mentioned. “I refused both the recommended therapy and medication for PTSD—but in retrospect, I should have taken the doctors up on the latter. I am stubborn, but I am self-sufficient.” While Erin admitted that she sometimes gets severe depression when she experiences a PTSD episode, she finds it therapeutic to spend time with the people whom she loves and who love her back. “My daughter and my friends are a real source of comfort for me, as are my PumpUp family,” she explained. “Writing poetry also helps because it is a real challenge for me to talk about myself in any regard. Creative outlets have helped me a lot, in addition to exercise.”


Although Erin always considered herself to be a healthy eater, she continues to grapple with portion control and moderation. “My theory is that we shouldn’t deprive ourselves,” she insisted. “Eat what you’re going to eat, but be prepared to see the consequences of exceeding your daily limit and not being able to burn it all off. You’ll have a higher success rate when you eat less junk.” Her fitness journey has allowed her to test the limits of her culinary prowess. She experiments with her food in healthy and creative ways. “I was never a cook before starting my fitness journey, but now I have the willingness to create things from scratch,” she explained. “I seldom use recipes because I like to limit my salt, sugar, and fat intake.”

As a self-professed cardio junkie, Erin prefers kickboxing, cycling, and running in order to stay active. When she first began her fitness journey, Erin explained that she would religiously perform Jillian Michaels routines until she learned how to create her own workouts based on calisthenics. “My routine just involves my own body weight—although sometimes I do one online when I’m lazy,” she admitted. “I workout twice a day—I have to because I have severe back issues. Exercise is my therapy—it’s better than physiotherapy. I use PumpUp to log my workouts and my progress.”

Her best advice for PumpUp members looking to achieve their resolutions in 2014 is to set realistic, achievable, and tangible goals. “Know what you can handle and start off small,” she counselled. “Don’t take on too much at once!”  As Erin continues her journey with the PumpUp community, her #MyResolution is to face her problems head on rather than waiting for better circumstances. "My PTSD will not conquer, I will," she told PumpUp.

Erin is motivated to break combat her family’s history of heart disease. Her genetic history is the fuel that powers her progress. “My biggest motivation would have to be my daughter—I want to extend my life to be around her,” she explained. “I want to be around for longer to see  that things get better for us.” Though cooking is a very recent hobby for Erin, she finds it fulfilling for one very important reason. “As a single parent, I have no choice but to impart great nutritional habits onto my daughter,” she affirmed.

“I love to eat Greek-style lamb with rice, carrots, potato, and occasionally house salad. My favourite thing to cook is salad rolls with cucumbers, carrots, avocado, and sometimes shrimp in rice paper. (It’s my daughter’s favourite).”

Never to be seen without her clever workout shirts (“Gundalf the Grey”, anybody?), her fantastic smile, and her positive attitude, @KatieLovesFitness takes the PumpUp spotlight today with an incredibly inspiring story about how she was able to achieve more than she could ever have hoped for in 2014 with the support of the PumpUp community. 

There’s a song that muses about how sometimes, life gets in the way of ‘living’. This rang true for Katie before she began her journey with the PumpUp. Although her lifestyle had always been healthy and active in general, stress and pressure from college have made it very difficult for her to remain healthy and active. “Last semester, I studied abroad in Germany. That’s when I really lost it with my weight,” she explained. “I ate whatever I wanted and exercised very little. It’s easy to get off track—once you start to gain weight and continue to gain weight, it’s hard to stop.”



With one snap decision and a lot of determination, Katie managed to get back into the rhythm of leading a holistically healthy routine with the help of the PumpUp community. “It’s never too late to set a new goal or to dream a new dream, and this summer I really decided to start living a healthy lifestyle again,” she elaborated. “PumpUp helped me stay on track so much. If I hadn’t been taking pictures along the way, I probably would have never noticed any change. I think this was my biggest problem in the past.”  Her resolution for the end of 2014 was specific and tangible: to fit into a specific pair of jeans that she wasn’t able to wear in nearly 4 years. “Now they’re getting big—I honestly didn’t think my body could be smaller than that,” Katie confessed. “I’m being healthy and that’s all that really matters to me.” 2014 was a major year of progress for her and we can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store. Katie began to lift heavier weights towards the end of December and even managed to beat her personal record—clocking in a squat of over 100 lbs.


Katie’s 15-pound weight loss is a brush stroke in the broader scheme of her transformation. She is most thrilled by the happiness and renewed sense of confidence that she gained with the support of her friends on PumpUp. “I am beyond grateful for this app and fitness community,” Katie insisted. “[Everybody] is so encouraging that it makes me keep trying to strive for more. I want to inspire people, and I would not be able to do so as directly without PumpUp.” 

She emphasizes how being part of PumpUp really is a team effort. “Whenever I don’t feel like exercising or eating healthy, I check PumpUp to see how everybody else in the community is doing and how they are fighting against their struggles,” she said. “This motivates me to keep going because I feel like I’m not alone in this struggle.” Katie underscores important, albeit difficult, it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and she’s glad to have other people on the app who understand her perspective wholeheartedly.

How Elizabeth overcame depression, binge eating, and learned to love herself - PumpUp 2014 Success Story

At this time last year, Elizabeth’s New Year’s resolution was the same as it always was: to lose weight. With the help of PumpUp, she accomplished so much more. “Ever since I can remember, I’ve had self worth issues,” she revealed. "I began to love the way I am, inside and out. I’ve lost 20 pounds and I’ve learned that the halfway point of becoming who you want to be begins with loving who you already are." Be inspired about how Elizabeth overcame bingeing and depression, transcended a weight loss plateau, and learned to love herself by joining the PumpUp community! Prior to her journey with PumpUp, Elizabeth’s struggles with binge eating made it difficult for her to lead a holistically healthy lifestyle. Any progress that might have been made through exercise stagnated due to her divisive relationship with food. “I worked out almost every day, but it was always the same kind of workout…it would barely make me sweat,” she recounted.  “I was so confused as to how I was gaining weight when I worked out every day.” Before PumpUp, Elizabeth would be overwhelmed by cravings and treated workouts as punishments for poor dietary decisions. “I would wake up, eat an unhealthy breakfast, be anxious for lunch, eat way too much food when I did eat lunch to the point of discomfort, come home to have a sugary snack, workout half-heartedly, then head home, eat dinner, and spend the rest of my night wishing I could be anyone but me,” she lamented. “I was miserable.”

This cycle of guilt and bingeing disintegrated after Elizabeth joined the PumpUp community. She’s been a beloved member for quite some time and understands how to live a healthy lifestyle through a different lens. “I learned that weight loss isn’t just about working out; it’s about everything all together—workouts, diet, and everyday activity,” she insisted. At first, Elizabeth turned to PumpUp purely as a source of inspiration. “I would read others’ success stories and I adopted a whole new outlook on how I should go about my weight loss journey,” Elizabeth confirmed. “PumpUp is the reason I actually be came a vegetarian—I look at PumpUp daily for new recipes and workouts to further my progress.” She only truly began to share about her journey with the community once she started to lose weight. “I felt that I should have had a little bit of progress before I started to motivate and encourage others,” Elizabeth shrugged. “Looking back, I can see that I wasn’t right. You can be at the very beginning of your journey and still inspire others. It’s all about attitude and perception.”


Elizabeth was diagnosed with depression one year ago, and this impacted her journey in ways that she could never have imagined. “When I was first diagnosed, I felt so completely lost,” she recounted. “I felt like I didn’t know who I was anymore. PumpUp was kind of how I began to find myself again. I would read blogs and stories all day long and realized that I had stopped crying.” At first, Elizabeth’s coping mechanism was to ignore her depression. “I never wanted to see my psychologist because I hated talking about my weight and how much I had grown to hate myself,” she recalled. “Slowly, I began to look at life with a different perspective. I would counteract every bad thought about myself with two good ones. Whenever I had a setback (such as having too much ice cream), I wouldn’t beat myself up about it—I would accept it and move on.” Elizabeth picks herself up and keeps moving forward, even when bad tides come crashing at the shores of her life. “There’s no point in wasting your life away by feeling sorry for yourself,” she insisted. “I found a lot of strength through my faith in God as well. It’s been quite the climb, but the view’s been worth it!”

After Elizabeth learned the importance of incorporating variety into her workout schedule, she transcended her weight loss plateau. She works out at least 4 days a week, alternating between yoga, tumbling, dance, running, and weight lifting. Although her food options are limited as a vegetarian, she goes about her lifestyle in a healthy way and makes sure that she eats more than just carbs. “I wake up, have an energizing breakfast (a smoothie, for instance), and go throughout the day happy and focused. I eat a light lunch—a salad or veggie sandwich—then relax when I get home,” she explained. “I work out, and after I eat my dinner I go to bed with a smile on my face. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and of who I am now.”  The  contrast between Elizabeth’s lifestyle prior to PumpUp and her current lifestyle is stark; it illustrates the extent of her successes, both mental and physical, since she became a member of the community.


All of this was achieved within the span of a little more than one year. Elizabeth’s advice for those looking to achieve their New Year’s resolutions with the help of PumpUp emphasizes the importance of perseverance. “First, do NOT obsess over your goals and constantly worry about them. Goals are something to be taken one step at a time. No need to stress,” she counseled. “Second, learn that setbacks will and are going to happen, and that’s perfectly okay. Failure is a part of success. Third, try something new. Most of the time, if you’re stuck in a rut, it’s because you’ve been doing the exact same things. Trying something new can be life-altering. Be it a new class at the gym, or focusing on a different part of your diet, the more you change and arrange, the better shot you have at pin-pointing what’s really holding you back along your journey to success.”

As Elizabeth continues along her journey with PumpUp, she hopes to maintain all of her hard work by remaining active and eating healthily. She intends to inspire others by demonstrating how anybody can reach their goals if they try hard enough. “It’s not impossible. I’ve not only decided to become vegetarian, but I’ve followed through with that decision. I’ve finally learned how to appreciate myself the way I am,” she said firmly. “By using PumpUp I’ve come to the realization that I’ll never be a model-esque girl with a thin body frame, and that is 100% okay because who I am now is more than enough.” Even if Elizabeth hadn’t lost the weight during her journey, she asserts that the halfway point of becoming who you want to be begins with loving who you already are. “If I could pick the hardest part of this entire journey, that would be it,” she stressed.


Biggest Motivation

“It is and has always been cheerleaders. As a cheerleader I know how rough it is to appreciate your body type. I’ve met so many cheerleaders who have beat anorexia, binge eating and depression. Professional cheerleaders have so much pressure on them to be perfectly skinny and athletic that it’s unreal. The girls who can take all that pressure and turn it into extreme focus for their dreams are so incredibly amazing to me.”

Favourite meals and drinks

“My absolute favorite drink is the newest low calorie Gatorade. It’s the type of drink that you can take with you to the gym and not worry about feeling weighed down. It gives you energy that will last throughout the day. My favorite meal is a special spaghetti with Morning-Star vegetarian meat. It has the most incredible taste without all the carbs. And my favorite snack is those plain string cheese sticks. It’s a great in-between meal snack to keep you full.”

“Tumbling. Whenever I tumble I love the feeling of adrenaline and I find it’s easier to be proud of myself after I finally hit a new skill. Tumbling is the best kind of workout to me. Half the time it doesn’t even feel like you’re working out. You get so caught up in the fun of it all. That’s what working out should always feel like. It doesn’t have to always be something you don’t want to do. Find something that’s a fun active activity for you and stick with it! The results will be rewarding, I promise!”

How Kristi's New Year's Resolution Became A Lifestyle Change - PumpUp Spotlight Series


Arms like those of PumpUp member @kayleefit31 weren’t built in a day. After nine months of hard work and dedication, Kristi achieved her goal weight with the help and support of the PumpUp community! Learn about how this adventurous and incredibly dedicated mother transformed her life in the best way possible with one simple resolution.

Kristi joined the PumpUp community in search of motivation as she embarked upon her health and wellness journey at the start of the New Year in 2014. “I was tired of living an unhealthy lifestyle and I wanted to see if change was actually possible,” she explains. For her, change wasn’t only possible—it became a lifestyle that she chose to maintain. 


Since she started using PumpUp, Kristi incorporates more activity and healthier eating habits into her routine. “Before PumpUp, I performed no exercise, I ate any and everything, and I was extremely lazy,” she reveals. “My average day would consist of work, eating, playing with my son, and sleeping. I skipped breakfast most of the time and did no exercise whatsoever.” Breakfast is now a staple for Kristi, who now works out 5 days a week despite her busy schedule and eats 6 small meals a day to keep her metabolism high. “In the morning I do a quick 15 minute workout, go to work, and try to get in a half-mile walk on my lunch break. I come home, workout for 30 minutes, and then I eat a healthy dinner,” she elaborates.

Kristi’s dedication to her exercise routine and mindful meals culminated in her reaching her goal weight—all within the span of nine months! Moving forward, she plans to maintain her current lifestyle and gain more muscle by increasing her calorie intake as she concurrently hits it hard at the gym.  “I have accomplished so much with this app. I am now always motivated to do some type of exercise every day,” she states proudly. “I have never been so excited to work out and hit the gym! On the days I am not able to work out, my body does not feel right.”


What is truly admirable about Kristi’s transformation is that she has been able to overcome obstacles such as post-partum depression and eating disorders by surrounding herself with positive people and by learning to holistically enhance her wellbeing. As her story demonstrates, there isn’t a quick or easy solution to beginning and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Rather, it is a product of perseverance and hard work. “Never give up. Keep pushing yourself. Don’t stop until you have the body you want,” says Kristi. “Even when you do have the body you dreamed for, keep going. Once you see results it becomes addictive.”


The fuel that feeds Kristi’s passion for health and wellness is her own awe-inspiring transformation, as well as the support she receives from the PumpUp community. “If it were not for my progress and the progress and motivation of other PumpUp members, I would have never been able to stay dedicated to exercising and eating right,” she confirms.
