Fast food used to be Marissa's ultimate vice. The more she consumed it, the heavier she became. "I gained 40 pounds in two years," she recalled. "I didn't go to the gym at all either. [Somebody on YouTube] mentioned PumpUp. I decided to check it out and fell in love." Marissa's sedentary ways changed when she joined PumpUp in August 2014. With the help of the PumpUp community, she resolved to live a healthier and more active lifestyle. Now, Marissa cooks most of her own meals rather than opting for takeout food. "I eat mostly chicken breast, veggies, and brown rice," she said proudly. "Once in a while, I may have a cheat meal. A girl's gotta have burgers and fries sometimes!" What's more, Marissa makes it a point to exercise at least once a day. Her hard work has paid off - Marissa lost 20 lbs since she joined PumpUp. "I am just living my life and along the way, if I am inspiring and changing lives, that's amazing," she insisted. "So many people inspire me on PumpUp. I have a great support system and that's what keeps me going. I would not have gone this far if it wasn't for this app. I know that for a fact."
Weight aside, Marissa's confidence has taken the biggest turn. "I'm 28 years old and it has taken a very long time to get comfortable with myself," she revealed. "Now, I am falling in love with the person I am growing into. Not only am I changing physically, but mentally and spiritually. I have to give props to specific PumpUp members: @gtbadams and @tweetii are always motivating me and are big inspirations to me."
Marissa's Biggest Obstacle
Just lack of confidence mentally, I lost a lot of friends and I refused to get into a serious relationship because I lacked so much confidence. I am reading help books and rediscovering the things I want out of my life and it's really helping me to focus on myself.
I do 40 mins of cardio in addition to whichever muscle group I'm focused on, be it arms, legs, or glutes.
Marissa's Best Advice
Consistency, hard work , and determination is key. No matter how many times you fall get back up, it's going to be hard and you will want to give up but next year you will be proud that you started and what you accomplished." You only fail when you stop trying."

I have never worn a 2 piece bikini or bathing suit (it's my 2016 goal). I wrote story that inspired a children's book called Little Red Envelopes. It is in schools throughout Florida.

Jessica was diagnosed with high cholesterol and hypertension at a very young age. She decided to get her health on the right track in order to avoid medication. When Jessica downloaded PumpUp 8 months ago, she sought motivation that was exclusively related to fitness. If you once had speedy metabolism that suddenly slowed to a halt, Tian can sympathize with you. Despite having been skinny for most of her life, Tian took this genetic pre-disposition for granted. This led to drastic weight gain that weighed on her until June 2014, when she decided to take action against it. "It's never too late to make a change," she insisted. "I'm not the strongest or most athletic, but I have a lot of heart. I keep pushing forward." Not long after, Tian joined PumpUp in search of support and she hasn't looked back. When Tian shared about her transformation on PumpUp, the community was stunned by her truly admirable transformation. "[The] supportive comments really made my day," she said warmly. "I greatly appreciate [each person] taking the time to comment. [They] are all a constant source of great support. Much love and appreciation!"
Exercise is the best stress reliever for Tian, who regularly wakes up at 5am to perform gruelling Insanity workouts. Though cardio is a challenge for her, she makes an effort to push through every workout. "At the time I began my fitness journey, I couldn't do 1 pushup or last more than 3 minutes on the treadmill," she professed.

"Nothing makes me happier than seeing all of this hard work pay off," said PumpUp member LyssDiane, who made tons of leg progress over the month of March. "I never want to be that incredibly skinny again. I'm nowhere near where I want to be, but I'm so far from where I was." Alyssa has been working out 5 times a week to achieve her transformation, often fighting the demons of procrastination and lethargy to work out. "All I want to do when I get home from work is [lie down], but I feel 1,000 times better when I get home and workout!" she exclaimed. "My leg transformation has been my favourite to watch. I thank my PumpUp friends for being so motivating!" When Alyssa was much skinner, her friends reacted poorly to her exercise routine. "I remember their reaction being, 'Why? You're already thin'," she elaborated. "A health complication made me realize how important my life and health really is. 6 months ago I began lifting and I am happier and more confident than ever." Alyssa loves herself and her figure and we're incredibly proud of all of her positivity and her leg progress! "Being comfortable in your own skin and falling in love with yourself is so important and such a cool thing to experience," said Isabelle, an amazing PumpUp member who lost 80 lbs between June 2014 and March 2015. "I hope everyone knows what it feels like at some point in their journey." Yes, Isabelle has stretch marks. Yes, Isabelle does not have a six pack. But Isabelle was amazing then and is amazing now. She loves herself regardless: finding old pictures puts things into perspective for her. "I understand that I don't have a six pack, or even a flat stomach for that matter," she continued. "But I can't help but be proud of how far I've come. I just want to say thank you to PumpUp for all of your continued support."
She's made an incredible difference in her life so far. The slate of her journey is etched with marks of hard work, resilience, and determination. "I'm so glad that I believed in myself enough to start making a change." Gemma radiates positivity and keeps herself motivated by sharing quotes that inspire her, and by chronicling the results of every workout. "PumpUp makes me feel like I'm not competing with anybody except myself," she insisted. "Never look down on anyone else's journey unless you're helping them up. Build others up, the world has too many critics." Gemma owes the bulk of her success to high intensity interval training (HIIT), healthy eating, and a humble attitude. "Your transformation will change you in many ways but I love to look back on how far I've come," she added. "It helps me to look forward and encourages me to set new targets."
