After a competitive soccer injury, Yasmin had trouble getting back on track. “I went to the gym, but I’d mostly do cardio because my main goal (at the time) was weight loss,” she revealed. “Back then, I wasn’t educated on what a healthy lifestyle [should entail], so I didn’t achieve much progress. I wouldn’t say I was in horrible shape, but my diet was very unhealthy.” Yasmin would come home from school and she’d gorge on pizza, chips, and pop. “My mental state was [not in the best position],” she admitted. “I was very unhappy with many aspects of my life. My poor diet and lazy lifestyle did not help at all.”
This led to Yasmin having anxiety and depression. “I would spend most of my time isolated in my room, and at one point, I didn’t have many friends and I wasn’t doing very well in school,” she said. “I used to visit a therapist every month, she suggested that I find a hobby. Working out has helped me develop a passion for health and fitness. It gave me a purpose to wake up every morning."
Gradually, Yasmin made changes that influenced her eating and exercise habits. “Now, I work out every single day, I watch what I eat, and I make sure that I get enough sleep,” she insisted. “After making these lifestyle changes, I’ve noticed a significant change in my body and my mind. I am a lot more positive now that I have discovered my passion for health and fitness!”
With the help of the PumpUp community, Yasmin was able to achieve more goals than ever. “I have been using PumpUp for 2 years,” she said. “I started using it because I wanted a place where I could share my fitness-related posts. I discovered PumpUp and realized that it was the perfect place to connect with like-minded people! I wasn’t ready to share my fitness posts [elsewhere], so I decided to stick to PumpUp. Nearly a year later, I have become comfortable enough with my body and now have my own fitness Instagram page (@yazfitness)."
By using PumpUp, Yasmin inspired others to live a healthy lifestyle. “The app helped me connect with like-minded people and it has given me the confidence boost I needed to start my own Instagram page,” she revealed. “I know that with each post, I am inspiring others to be the best that they can be.”
Yasmin’s Best Advice
My 3 main points of advice to my fellow PumpUp members or anyone looking to lead a more active life: 1-BE PATIENT! Progress takes time, whether it be a week, a month or a year; do not give up on yourself if you don’t notice results right away. 2- DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS! I always see people posting pictures of another person and saying “I wish my body was like this”. It’s fine to have a motivation, but never compare your body to someone else’s! Our bodies are all different; we have different body types, different bone structure, different muscle mass and so on. Some people have natural small legs, some have a thigh gap, some tend to collect more fat to their booty… we’re all different! Strive to be the best version of yourself rather than trying to achieve the body of someone else! 3- NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! As stated before, progress takes time. Just because you aren’t seeing results right away DOES NOT mean you should give up!
Yasmin’s Biggest Source of Motivation
My biggest motivation is my own progress. As cocky as that sounds, I strongly believe in being the best that I can be. I have progressed A LOT since I’ve started my fitness journey, both mentally and physically, and I find it extremely motivating that I am capable of changing my lifestyle so significantly. This keeps me determined to never give up on myself and achieve my goal of being the best that I can be.
Fun Facts about Yasmin
Some interesting facts about myself: I am a vegetarian (for 4 years strong!), I played competitive soccer for 10 years, I want to be a dentist, I started going to the gym when I was 15, but didn’t start bodybuilding until I was 17, I wish to compete in bikini competitions in the near future, I don’t mind working out with others, but I’d much rather workout by myself since I consider it my “me time”.
